Solving Major Stormwater Runoff Issues
This new construction home in Clarkesville, GA was experiencing significant water runoff challenges due to two stormwater drains discharging directly onto the property. Without proper redirection, the excess water posed long-term risks to the foundation, lawn, and overall property stability. Our team was brought in to develop a comprehensive solution that addressed drainage, grading, and landscape restoration.
Excavation, Tree Removal & Drainage Engineering
To properly manage the water flow, we first removed a large poplar tree along with several dead pine trees to create space for excavation and ensure safe working conditions. Our crew then excavated swales on both sides of the property totaling approximately 430 feet in length. These engineered channels were designed to redirect stormwater safely toward a wooded area at the rear of the property.
More than 150 tons of aggregate material were imported to stabilize the site. Surge stone was installed along the swales and steep hillside areas for structural reinforcement, while #4 stone was used to line the newly excavated side-yard drainage channels. This approach provided both durability and effective water management.
Final Grading & Lawn Establishment
After completing drainage corrections, final grading was performed across both the front and backyard to ensure proper slope and surface consistency. To prepare the site for a healthy lawn, 36 tons of topsoil were imported and spread to amend the soil profile. Fescue seed and straw matting were then applied to stabilize the surface and promote successful germination. The completed project not only resolved the runoff issues but also restored the property with a clean, finished appearance.
